Open Door in Tuen Mun before Chinese New Year (24 Jan 2014)
Uncle Hung, storyteller, and Doris Lee, housewife, went to Tuen Mun Town Centre, an area with many Indonesian domestic workers, to tell residents about Erwiana’s case and urge them to care about domestic workers around them, and to think as citizens, how we can make sure that terrible abuses like Erwiana suffered, can not happen again in this city.
They gave out leaflets with messages of things a good employer can do, and why domestic workers often are not able to speak out even when abused. The leaflet also has phone numbers, for those who want to complain about agency malpractices, or to help domestic workers in need.
Open Door is a group formed by four domestic worker employers in 2009, which grew later into a volunteer organization with concerned non-employer Hong Kong citizens as well as employers.
